My needs

I need something simple that doesn’t get in my way and I’m used too. I’ve always been for the Unix way of doing things that is one tool for one jobs. I know that plain text format like org, MD, txt are great for that because they are just text file and you can organize them in subfolder and do whatever

This works great on a Unix based device (mac, bsd, linux) which are my 3 main OSs

I use nextcloud currently to sync my documents and it’s not great on Android for certain use cases which is what made me stop having a nextcloud server because all I needed is file sharing and other things I could have a server for.

how I solved it back in the day

Instead of doing everything with one big clunky server I went back to the Unix approach based on my needs which where

• synching file between devices
• having a cadav server
• having a carddav server
• having an xmpp server

nowadays

I don’t have a vps nor server and my gf had a nextcloud server so I’m now once again having issue with nextcloud. We have the following needs: - Our photos synced to a gallery - taking shared notes - taking personal notes - everything else

what services do we run

• Our photos synced to a gallery : immich, and for me shitty auto upload of nextcloud for backup
• taking shared notes : hedgedoc
• taking personal notes : me nextcloud but it sucks, her obsidian but she doesn’t want to pay for the setvice
• everything else : nextcloud sync

Solution for me

Use my own install on synching on her server so I can sync whatever I need to sync on my phone, since it has always been way less clunky than nextcloud
